Uefa set to strip Russia of Champions League Final after Ukraine escalation

Russia will soon be stripped of its privilege of hosting this year's champions league final. This verdict comes as Russia`s president Vladimir Putin recognized two rebel-held regions in eastern Ukraine as independent states and ordered his troops to enter them.

The Uefa champions league is set to be held in St Petersburg Russia on May 28 at a 68,000 Capacity Gazprom Arena Stadium. But a change of location is being discussed now following huge political pressure.

Both London's mayor Sadiq Khan and Prime Minister Boris Johnson have called for Russia to the stripped of the right to host a major final.

Uefa said that they are "constantly and closely monitoring the situation” and that “any decision would be made in due course if necessary". Internal talks have been held as to whether the final should be moved to Wembley Stadium London among over venues under consideration. A final decision will not be made until a few weeks before the match.

A handful of MPs have called for the final to be taken away from Russia. Mr. Johnson told the house of commons that there was "no chance of holding football tournaments in a Russia that invades sovereign countries.”

Khan the Mayor of London said: "London is the sporting capital of the world and stands ready to host the final. It is clear staging it in Russia is now untenable."

Wembley Stadium is set to host the “League Two” and Championship play-off finals on the 28 and 29 of May respectively.
