Two Doctors Abducted In Cross Rivers Kidnappers Demand N100M


The Cross Rivers chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association NMA has raised alarm over the abduction of two of its members with the kidnappers demanding N100 million as ransom.

 The chairman of the NMA in the state Mr. Felix Archibong confirmed this sad development to a news agency in Nigeria during an interview on Saturday, November 19 in Calabar the Cross Rivers Capital.

  According to the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in the state Mr. Achibong, the two medical doctors were abducted on Friday alongside two others at the Ikomita section of the Calabar-Ikom highway.

 Dr. Ekpo Etim Egong, a volunteer physician with the General Hospital has been identified as one of the abducted physicians.

  It was after they were returning to Ogoja from a workshop they were attending in Calabar that the two doctors became victims of the kidnap.

Reports revealed that the gunmen blocked the highway during the operation and shot into the air to scare away passersby. They immediately zoomed off after they had successfully abducted seven victims. According to eyewitnesses, three females and four males were kidnapped.

 The reports indicate that the three females were later released after they were disposed of their valuables such as phones, watches, and cash. But the four males were taken into the bush.

 Sule Balarabe., the state commissioner of Police confirmed the incident and stated that the command will do everything within its power to secure their release unhurt.  

"We are going to comb the forest to secure their release. I assure you that the matter will adequately be dealt with. I am not just sitting in Calabar to give orders, I am also on the ground with my men," the CP stated.

 

"We have the cooperation of the locals and I believe we will have a positive result. I am on the ground with various units. We are hitting the nails on its head as I speak, we must make sure we secure the release of the victims unharmed," he declared.
