Super Eagles Coach Eguavoen Steps Down After His Team Crashed Out Of Afcon 2021
Austin Eguavoen has stepped down from his role as super
Eagles interim coach after the team crashed out in the round of 16 at the 2021
African Cup Of Nations.
The Nigerian Squad
lost 1 – 0 to the Tunishains on Sunday, January 23 in the round of 16. A 47th-minute
strike from Youssef
Msakni was all the Tunisians needed the win the game. The super Eagles lost thus
ending Eguavoen`s hopes of keeping the job permanently.

Eguavoen had become the first coach to led
the super Eagles to three straight wins against Egypt, Sudan., Guinea Bissau
before Tunisia defeated them.
In a conference after the match, Eguavoen said
he has decided to return to his role as Technical Director Of The NFF.
“What happens next is that; I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the
NFF, I will go back to my position and allow the Federation to decide on the
way forward,” Eguavoen said.
It was after Gernot Rohr was sacked in December
that Eguavoen stepped in. The NFF however announced Jose Peseiromas as the permanent
coach of the Super Eagles before AFCON kicked off.
All attention is now turned to the world cup
playoffs against Ghana fixed for Match.
