Snow Covered Bridge Collapses in Pittsburgh Injuring 10 People.

A bridge in Pittsburgh collapsed on Friday morning January 28. According to officials, the collapse sent multiple vehicles and public buses plummeting into a park below.

Reports from CBS Pittsburgh indicate that 10 people suffered minor injuries and four people were rushed to local hospitals, but no one got life-threatening injuries.

Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman said  "This could have been much worse," while speaking with CBS Pittsburgh at the collapsed site.  According to Fetterman, a winter storm delayed the start of schools and kept people away from the roads.

Photos of the scene showed vehicles pilled up amid the rubble. Large leaks resulted from the gas lines running along the bridge. According to an official statement, crews had to shut off the lines.

According to officials the Allegheny  County Port Authority bus and five other vehicles were on the Overpass when it collapsed into Frick Park below at around 6: 40 am.  Crews searched the area to see if anyone was in the park when the collapse occurred.

Mayor Ed Gainey told reporters that the bridge was last inspected in September. Darryl Jones the Fire Chief said authorities were investigating the cause of the collapse as it happened hours before US President Joe Biden was scheduled to visit the area to speak about infrastructure and other things.

"With him coming today to talk about this infrastructure bill, to discuss why this funding is so important, today is significant," Gainey told reporters."… At the end of the day, we could have had some serious injuries."

Firefighters, police, and medical teams responded to the collapse. The red cross has also been contacted to help the victims a safety official said.

Pennsylvania Gov Tom Wolf tweeted that he is monitoring the situation and also advised residents to take alternate routes.
