Rape Lawsuit Against Cristiano Ronaldo Dismissed By US Judge
In 2009, Kathryn
Mayorga had a brief fling with the football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo at a
Las Vegas hotel and then alleged that the superstar raped her.
Cristiano never
denied that both of them met at Las Vegas in 2009. But he said that what
happened between the two of them was consensual and not rape. The superstar was
never charged.
Ronaldo has not
remained mute on this case nor has he paid the woman around $375,000 in a
settlement in 2010.
Even after receiving
the settlement in 2010, Mayorga said that she agreed to the settlement under
duress and the emotional trauma she was under at that time. She added that she
felt pressured to accept the offer. As a result of that, she has decided to go
further with the lawsuit.
The new lawsuit
sought a further payout, which might cost millions. But on
Friday, June 10 202, A US district Judge Jenifer Dorset, kicked the case out of
court as a result of the way the documents were obtained.
Things have turned
around in favor of Cristiano Ronaldo as a US judge dismissed the rape
allegation lawsuit because the lawyer of the accuser relied on leaked and
stolen records.
In her 42-page
order, the Judge dismissed the case outright with no option to file it again.
Even with this dismissal, Ronaldo has been harmed by the conduct of Ms. Mayorga's
lawyer, Leslie Mark Stovall.
The judge said in her 42-page order that dismissing a case
outright with no option to file it again is a severe sanction, but that Ronaldo
had been harmed by the conduct of Ms Mayorga's lawyer, Leslie Mark Stovall.

Judge Dorsey,
explained before the honorable court, that Mr Stovall had used "misappropriated
documents" that had been "woven into the very fabric" of the
plaintiff`s case. To this end, the case has been permanently dismissed.
In her ruling, she
wrote, "I find that the procurement and continued use of these documents
was bad faith".
"Simply disqualifying Stovall will not cure the
prejudice to Ronaldo because the misappropriated documents and their
confidential contents have been woven into the very fabric of [the plaintiff's]
claims.
"Harsh sanctions are merited," the ruling stated.
In a statement released in October 2018, Ronaldo said:
"I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an
abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in."
His legal team has stated that the sexual encounter was
consensual and that a confidentiality agreement prevents both his team and the
woman from talking about it.
The woman's legal team could appeal against the decision.
