Police Re-arrest Teenager For The Third Time Just Weeks After He Left Prison.
Officials of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have
arrested a teenage traffic robber who confessed that he went into robbery again
to raise funds to offset the debt he incurred after his release from prison
four weeks ago.
The robber aged 18
years has been identified as Sodiq Abubakar was arrested by men of the RRS
around 8:00 pm on Friday in Ketu shortly after he used an unidentified object
to threaten a motorist and thereafter took 7,000 Naira from him in Ketu
Traffic.
The suspect Abubake
explained that after his release from the correctional center, he borrowed some
money to buy drugs. He added that after his creditor became too persistent he
had to resort to traffic robbery in other to offset the debt. He does not work alone, his accomplice Abubakar
who is now at large dispossesses their victims of money by threatening to smash
their side glass if the victim failed to release money from his pockets. The
victim in this case coughed out 7k which they shared immediately.
Sadiq mentioned that
he met his accomplice Ahmadu at Otedola bridge and they decided to rob at traffic.
The victim immediately alerted RRS officials who arrested him not too far from
the spot while his accomplice Ahmadu escaped.
According to Sadiq,
this is not the first time he is been arrested for traffic robbery, he was
arrested for the same offense on June 16, 2021, and sentenced to three months
imprisonment. He was arrested again on the 19 of September 2021 in Alapere for
traffic robbery by RRS team. After this arrest, he was also sentenced to prison.
It was after four weeks after he was released that he was rearrested in Ojota
Bridge.
Following the
directive of the Lagos state commissioner of Police Cp Hakeem Odumosu , he has
been charged to court
