Police Officer Shot Dead By An Unidentified Gunman In Port Harcourt

A police officer was shot and killed in front of a hotel in D-Line, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Rivers State, by an unidentified gunman.


The state Police Command has acknowledged the occurrence.

SP According to a statement from the command's public relations officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the officer was shot on Friday night by an unnamed gunman.

Iringe-Koko claims that the officer, an inspector, was a component of Yenegoa, Bayelsa State's Department of Operations.

She said, "While accompanying his principal to a hotel near Oroworukwo within the D-Line axis of the Olu-Obasanjo area of Port Harcourt, the hoodlum shot the officer who was on escort duty in the head."

She revealed that the beret and AK-47 rifle of of the officer were carted away.


The statement further revealed that “police patrol teams were immediately mobilised to the scene” and that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing criminals and recover the rifle while the corpse of the policeman has been deposited in a mortuary.
