Police intercept two buses conveying 32 underaged children from Benue to Osun state

    Two commercial buses allegedly conveying 32 children to Ede in Osun state were intercepted by men of the Benue State Police command Anti-Crime squad Usually code-named Operation Zenda.

   The two buses were intercepted at Ameladu in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue state on January 8, 2022.

    The conveyer of the children simply identified as Mrs. Linda Akaasema claimed that she owns an orphanage in Osun state. She also revealed that the children are between the ages of 13 to 19.

    According to the owner of the orphanage, she said that the children in the buses were inmates of Akaasema Child Care Foundation which is registered in Benue state but operational in Osun state. She also said that they came home to celebrate during the past holiday.

    According to Mrs. Akaasema, the children are from Ukum local government towns of Zakibiam, Jootar, and other boundary towns with Taraba State.

    She was however unable to provide any proof such as documents that identifies that she owns an orphanage and proof that the children were actually in school and only visited home.

   The only document she was able to provide was the one that identifies herself with the excuse that she forget the rest at home when leaving Osun State.

   SP Catherine Anene the spokesperson for the command confirmed the development and said that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
