Nigerian govt declares public holidays for Christmas and New Year celebrations
The Federal Government has declared Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day.
The government also declared Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as a public holiday to mark the beginning of the New Year.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement via a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo extended greetings to Nigerians and encouraged the citizens to embrace the season’s values of love, peace, and unity.
The statement read: “The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences.”
He stressed the need for Nigerians to strengthen family and community bonds and foster harmony that contributes to national development.
