Man arrested for child theft in Abeokuta

A 35-year old man identified as Sunday Alani has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command on Friday. He was arrested for allegedly stealing a one-year-old child in Atolashe Village in the Odeda Local Government area of Ogun State. 

   The men of the Nigerian Police Force attached to Odeda divisional headquarters received a distress call that a man is running away with a little girl who was playing around in her parent's compound. The suspect took advantage of the mother's unattentiveness as she was busy frying Garri.

 The mother immediately raised an alarm after a passerby noticed the suspicious activity. 

  CSP Femi Olabode, the DPO of the Odeda division upon receiving the distress call swung into action and mobilized his men together with safe corpsmen and moved to the scene. The child was rescued and the suspect was arrested after he was chased to a bush. 

 Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and informed the police that he is not alone in the crime. He is together with two women accomplices. He also added that he had previously stolen two children from the Akute area of Ogun State and Egbeda in Lagos state.

  Based on his confession he receives 80 thousand Naira from the women after he hands over a child he has successfully stolen to them. 

   DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson of the state police command said that the commissioner of police CP Lanre Bankole has ordered a massive manhunt for the two women who are accused of being accomplices of the suspect so they can be brought to book. 

   He added that the commissioner of police has directed that the suspect should be transferred to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discrete investigation.
