Hundreds Of Armed Soldiers And Secret Service Guards US President Joe Biden And Zelensky As They Walk Calmly On The Streets Of Kyiv Amid Air Raid Sirens
The president of the United States, Joe Biden on Monday walked the
streets of Kyiv alongside his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelensky on what became the first US sitting
president to visit an active warzone without the presence of active US Military
personnel.
President Biden came under a cloak of secrecy
into a war zone to display what he called America’s “unwavering support” of the Ukrainian armed forces to beat back
Russian forces nearly 12 months after they invaded the country.

The US President joined Zelensky for a
visit to St.Michael`s monastery in downtown Kyiv, where the sun glittered on
the golden-domed stones as the air-raid alarm wailed. The two soldiers walked
along the wall of remembrance while trailing two soldiers bearing a wreath.
Portraits of over 4,500 soldiers who have died since Russia illegally annexed
Crimea in 2014 when it first fomented a rebellion in eastern Ukraine are on
display.
It was when Mr.Biden got back into his
motorcade and departed the monastery that the air raid alarm stopped. The alarms
sound almost daily in Kyiv, but the blare of the siren added to the bristling
tension of the moment.
A Russian MIG fighter jet taking off
in Belarus, which borders Ukraine to the north triggered the alarm on Monday. A
missile from a MIG fired from Belarus can hit Kyiv in under 20 minutes.
Reports from the
New york times revealed that Joe Biden left Washington at midnight without
prior notice. Air Force 1 took off at 4:15 a.m. East coast time. Only a handful
of reporters sworn to secrecy and deprived of their telephones were brought in
along with Jake Sullivan, the president’s
national security adviser; Jen O’Malley Dillon, his deputy chief of staff; and
Annie Tomasini, the director of Oval Office operations.
