Ekweremadu-Temper Justice With Mewrcy Reps Tell Court


   Toby Okechukwu, a member of the House of reps moved the motion and said it was based on the long-standing cordial relationship between Britain and Nigeria that started many decades ago.

  The lawmaker also acknowledged the contribution of Ekweremadu to the Commonwealth of Nations and his sincere intentions to save the life of Sonia his daughter.  He added that there should be back channels for diplomatic interventions.

  Close to tears and full of sympathy, Okechukwu insisted that the former deputy Senate president has supported many Nigerians in the past.

 

With a broken voice and close to tears, Okechukwu insisted that the former Deputy Senate President has come to the aid of many Nigerians in the past.

Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the house spoke to the crown and pleaded for clemency adding that Ekweremadu is a good man with no case of conviction in the past.

 He also pleaded with the UK court to take into consideration the history of rightful living of Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice. He added that the daughter who is sick should also be considered since she is under the care of their parents and convicting the parents would endanger the daughter's health.

   Ekweremadu, his wife, and their doctor, Obinna Obeta were convicted for organ trafficking, in the first verdict of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act.

   Ekweremadu, 60; his wife, Beatrice, 56; and Dr. Obinna Obeta, 51, were found guilty of facilitating the travel of a young man to Britain with a view to his exploitation after a six-week trial at the Old Bailey.
