Adamawa government bans hunters association over abuse of power
The activities of the professional hunters
association of Nigeria have been banned by the Adamawa state government. It was
after reports of abuse of power that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri approved the ban
on Monday, December 6, 2021.
According to the statement released by Humwashi Wonosikou the governor's press secretary, it
was stated that the decision to ban the hunters was because they abused the
rules of engagement and showed a lack of regard to the traditional institution
and security agencies. The abuse of power is especially worse in these five LGA
namely Guyak, Numan, Shelleng, Demsa, and Lamurde.
It was further directed that security
agencies make sure that the proscribed group adheres to the decision stating
that the activities of the hunters could cause a public disturbance.
The statement read;
“The operations and
activities of the association in the five local governments have become a
source of concern and insecurity, instead of the security, it is fashioned to
provide.
“More worrisome is the fact
that the association operates independently of any security organization in the
five Local Government areas, thereby giving room for suspicion of their motive
and intentions especially that they operate in uniforms of our security
agencies and at odd hours.
“I urge security agencies and
the traditional institution to collaborate and ensure that peace is maintained
across the State before, during and after the Yuletide and new year festivities”.
