21 Story Building Collapse In Ikoyi Lagos
On Monday, November 1st, 2021, a 21 story
building collapse in the Ikoyi area of Lagos state. After the collapse, News reporters, neighbors,
Rescue agencies, and others have stormed the area to provide support.
As of the time of
filing this report, 3 Victims of the collapse have been rescued alive while the
rescue operations are still ongoing. The
Lagos Rescue Unit and the Lagos state fire service are among the agencies
combining their efforts on the rescue operations.
Many state
functionaries such as the Deputy Governor of Lagos state Dr. Kadri Obafemi, the
commissioner for physical planning, and Urban Development Dr. Idris Salako, Commissioner
for Special duty, Mr. Bamgbose- Martins, Special Adviser, Urban
Development, Hon. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba, Special Adviser, GIS and
Physical Planning, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, Permanent Secretary, Ministry
of Physical Planning and Urban Development as well as General Manager,
LASEMA Dr. Femi Oke- Osanyintolu rushed to the scene to see how help can be
provided for those trapped in the collapsed building.
Investigations are
still ongoing to find out the cause of the collapse. The General Managers of
the Lagos State Building Control Agency, as well as the Lagos State physical
planning permit authority, were on the ground to make a summary assessment to
get the extent of damage to the surrounding structures if any.
