106 Hostages Rescued By Somalia Forces After 30-Hour Hotel Siege By Deadly Al-Shabab Terrorist
On Sunday, August 21, 2022, the Somalia security forces ended a 30-hour siege carried out by the dreaded Al-Shabab terrorist. The terrorist had earlier held hundreds of people hostage in the Hayat hotel in the Somalia capital of Mogadishu. The security forces were able to overpower the gunmen by Sunday morning August 21.
The roads leading to the hotel were quiet and
the roads were blocked by the presence of heavily armed security personnel,
bomb disposal experts, and emergency workers. This personnel started clearing
explosives and rubble from the hotel.
The gun battle between
the security forces and the militants resulted in severe damage to the hotel leading
to the collapse of some parts of the building.
Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar, the police commissioner told reporters
on Sunday that '106 people including children and women were rescued by the
bold security forces during the siege which ended around midnight.

'The
casualties mostly happened in the early hours of the attack, after that
security forces spent time rescuing people individually and room by room,'
Hijar said.
At this time, the police have not revealed
any details on how the attack unfolded, and it is still unclear how many gunmen
entered the hotel or how they left the hotel.
Al Shabab terror group has links to Al-Qaeda and is proscribed by both the US
and UK.
The
Al Shaba terrorist have enforced a strict version of Sharia Law in the areas of
Somalia it controls, including stoning to death any woman accused of adultery.
