27 Migrant Dies After Boat Mishap In Channel

     At least 27 Migrants were who were heading to the UK have drowned at the English channel Near Calais.  Among those who were drowned were five women and one girl. The France interior minister Released a statement as to what happened.

    He mentioned that five fishing boats sounded the alarm on Wednesday afternoon that they saw some people on the sea off the coast of France.  

   The French interior minister Gerald Darmanin initially said that 31 migrants drowned which included five women and one young girl.  The total number was later reversed to and brought down to 27. The interior minister also noted that 34 persons were on board the boat but only two persons were rescued and only one person is missing.  

   Two persons have already appeared in court and prosecutors have already opened the case for them he said. But French and British authorities conducted rescue operations via air and sea.

    What do we know about the boat used by the migrants? According to one translation on sky news, Mr. Darmanin described that the boat as very weak and similar to a pool that you can blow up in your garden.  According to French police the boat set out from the Dunkirk region east of Calais.  According to fishermen in the area, it was the calm weather that motivated more migrants to do their usual attempt to cross. Based on reports, 25 boats attempted to make the crossing.
